Contraindications include, but are not limited to: pregnancy and breastfeeding.

What to expect:

  • You may experience red, raised blebs for 15-20 minutes after treatment, these will resolve spontaneously.

  • Results will start to become apparent 3-4 days after treatment; full results will take a 14 days 

  • Touch ups may be done at 14 days post treatment, no sooner 

  • The effects of Botox/Dysport will slowly start to wear off over a  period of 3-4 months, at which point you may be retreated 

Do’s and Don’ts:

  • Do not rub or massage injection sites for 3 hours post treatment 

  • Do not apply makeup to injection site for remainder of the day 

  • Keep your head upright in a neutral position for 3 hours post treatment 

  • Avoid strenuous activity, exercise, and hot tubs/saunas for 24 hours post treatment 

Dermal Filler Treatment

Contraindications include, but are not limited to: pregnancy and breastfeeding, use of antibiotics within the last two weeks, vaccinations within the last two weeks, illness within the last 5-7 days, or taking a flight within the next 24 hours.

What to expect:

  • Anticipate that you will have bruising and swelling for up to 10 days after treatment 

  • Small lumps/bumps may be present for up to 14 days post treatment 

Do’s and Don’ts:

  • Do not rub, massage or apply direct firm pressure to the treated area

  • Avoid consumption of alcohol, Advil, or Aspirin for 24 hours; Tylenol may be taken as needed for discomfort/tenderness 

  • Avoid strenuous activity, exercise, and hot tubs/saunas for 24 hours post treatment 

  • Hydration for the first 3-5 days after treatment is crucial to continued smoothing and plumping of the treated area 

  • Ice may be applied in 5 minute intervals as needed for swelling 

  • Avoid firm, direct pressure on treated area 

When to contact your practitioner:

  • If you develop a white hue on or around the treatment area that does not return to baseline skin tone when pressed firmly for 3 seconds 

  • If you develop grey/dusky bruising on or around the treatment area 

  • If you develop bruising that extends beyond the treatment area in a lacey pattern 

  • If you feel a firm lump in the treatment area

  • If you experience profound throbbing pain in the area that was treated 

  • If you experience asymmetrical swelling 

Microneedling

Contraindications include, but are not limited to: pregnancy and breastfeeding, allergy to nickel, active acne, open sores or lesions on the skin or mouth.

What to expect:

  • You may experience redness, burning, itching and potentially pinpoint bleeding immediately after treatment to any or all of the treated areas; these symptoms will be apparent for the remainder of the day after treatment 

  • You may experience residual redness for up to 72 hours post treatment

  • Subsequent treatments may be necessary to achieve desired results 

Do’s and Don’ts:

  • If you experience burning/tingling sensation pat skin with a cool damp face cloth or use a cold roller & apply recovery balm as needed 

  • Avoid sun exposure for 24 hours post treatment

  • Cleanse the skin with a gentle cleanser and apply sunscreen in the morning; continue with this routine for 2-3 days or until skin is feeling less sensitive and then resume normal skincare routine

  • Do not apply cosmetics until the day after treatment

Sclerotherapy Spider Vein Treatment

Contraindications include, but are not limited to: pregnancy and breastfeeding, diagnosis of diabetes, circulatory conditions, rheumatoid arthritis and/or cardiac disease, history of a deep vein thrombosis, any condition causing immobility, and large, palpable varicose veins. 

What to expect: 

  • You will have multiple cotton pads taped to the injection sites that need to remain in place for four hours 

  • Your legs may feel tender and/or swollen or itchy for a few hours post treatment 

  • Bruising, hard lumps, and hyperpigmentation may be present for several days and up to two weeks

  • Multiple treatments are typically required for best results, no sooner than two weeks apart 

Do’s and Dont’s:

  • Bring compression stockings to appointment and don immediately after treatment 

  • Bring shorts to your appointment to allow for access to the treatment area 

  • Remove cotton pads after four hours

  • A brisk 20-minute walk once daily is recommended after treatment 

  • Avoid high impact activities for 72 hours 

  • Avoid hot baths & sauna for 72 hours 

Laser & IPL Treatments

Contraindications include, but are not limited to: pregnancy and breastfeeding, tattoos on the area to be treated, darker skin tones above Fitzpatrick 4, melasma, metal surgical implants.

What to expect:

  • You may experience redness, tingling and puffiness immediately after treatment lasting for up tp 24 hours 

  • You may notice black flecks on the skin after treatment for several days 

  • You will begin to reap the benefits of treatment in a few days to a few weeks 

  • Subsequent treatments may be necessary to achieve desired results 

  • If you are feeling warm and tingly upon returning home cool the skin with cool damp cloths, ice packs or cold roller

Do’s and Don’ts: 

  • Avoid sun exposure for 24 hours 

  • Do not pick/exfoliate black flecks off, as this increases the risk of scarring

  • Use SPF daily in the am 

  • Avoid active ingredients in skincare for 72 hours

Laser Hair Removal

Contraindications include, but are not limited to: pregnancy and breastfeeding, tattoos on the area to be treated, darker skin tones above Fitzpatrick 4, melasma, metal surgical implants.

What to expect:

  • You may experience redness, tingling and puffiness immediately after treatment lasting for up tp 24 hours 

  • You will begin to reap the benefits of treatment in 10-14 days

  • Subsequent treatments may be necessary to achieve desired results 

  • If you are feeling warm and tingly upon returning home cool the skin with cool damp cloths, ice packs or cold roller

Do’s and Don’ts:

  • Avoid sun exposure for 24 hours 

  • Use SPF daily in the am 

  • Avoid active ingredients in skincare for 72 hours

Plexr Skin Resurfacing

Contraindications include, but are not limited to: pregnancy and breastfeeding, implanted pacemaker or defibrillator.

What to expect: 

  • Approximately 7-10 days of downtime is expected

  • Significant swelling expected during the first 24 - 48 hours (if both upper and lower eyelids are treated, this can result in the eyes swelling completely shut in some cases)

  • Residual swelling may be present for 4-6 weeks post treatment 

  • Redness may persist for 4-6 weeks post treatment 

  • Results will be most apparent 2-3 months post treatment 

  • A subsequent treatment may be required to achieve optimal results 

Do’s and Don’ts:

  • Routine use of ibuprofen (600 mg every 4-6 hours) and benadryl (50 mg every 4-6 hours) can help to decrease the amount of swelling and help with itchy sensations

  • Sleeping with head elevated can also help to decrease the amount of swelling 

  • Cold compress (ice wrapped in a dry cloth, cold roller, or frozen spoons) can be applied in 5 minute intervals if desired

  • For the first 24 hours do not get the treated area wet

  • After the first 24 hours when washing the face gently splash water on the face, keeping the eyes as dry as possible, use a gentle, scent-free cleanser and pat dry with damp paper towels

  • Regard concealer/ointment is to be applied every morning and every night until the carbon crusts fall off

  • DO NOT PICK OFF CARBON CRUSTS. This greatly increases the risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (scarring).

  • Once the carbon crusts come off apply Extreme Care Lotion and SPF daily for 30 days

Hydrafacials

Contraindications include, but are not limited to: allergies to shellfish, aspirin, or methylisothiazolinone

What to expect:

  • You may experience redness, and flaking following your HydraFacial treatment, which is a completely normal reaction

Do’s and Don’ts:

  • Discontinue use of active ingredients such as retiniods and high levels of AHA and BHA products for approximately 3-5 days prior to treatment. While not a contraindication, the skin may feel more sensitive during the treatment.

  • Avoid exfoliating 3-5 days following your HydraFacial treatment 

Facials & Dermaplaning

Contraindications for dermaplaning include, but are not limited to: allergy to nickel, excessively dry, active breakouts, or loose skin on the face. There are no associated contraindications for facials, though we ask that you inform your aesthetician of pregnancy, breastfeeding, medications, skin conditions, and any allergies.

What to expect:

  • You may feel more sensitive to skin care products in the days following your facial or dermaplaning treatment

Do’s and Don’ts:

  • Pause use of any retinoids 3-5 days before your treatment if you are experiencing heavy flaking

  • Avoid exfoliating for 3-5 days following facial treatments

  • For dermaplaning, it is best to avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat for 3 days following the treatment 

Chemical Peels

Contraindications include, but are not limited to: pregnancy or breastfeeding, cold sores within the last 7 days, use of Roaccutane in the last 6 months, undiagnosed skin lesions, use of tanning beds, recent tan or sunburn in the last 4 weeks.

What to expect:

  • Tightness, redness, itchiness, sensitivity, and slight swelling are normal, expected outcomes for 2-24 hours following a peel

  • Some peels may cause temporary dryness, skin peeling, or flaking for 3-5 days

  • The treated area may or may not actually peel as each treatment is individual; it may take 2 or more treatments to target the deeper layers of skin to loosen and “peel”, and the degree of peeling does not necessarily reflect the efficacy of the procedure

Do’s and Don’ts:

  • For the best results, use AlumierMD home care products for 14 days prior to a peel

  • Avoid the use of all retinoid products and high levels of AHA and BHA products for approximately 7 days prior to treatment. Consult your physician before temporarily discontinuing the use of any prescription medications

  • Laser/IPL/radio frequency/chemical peel should be avoided for 4 weeks prior to treatment

  • Filler injections should be avoided for 2 weeks prior to treatment

  • Botox/microdermabrasion/enzymatic peeling/waxing/threading should be avoided for 7 days prior to treatment

  • The area to be treated should not be shaved 24 hours prior to treatment

  • Refrain from removing peeling skin by any means including picking, peeling and exfoliating as it could result in hyperpigmentation or scarring

  • Avoid getting the skin wet for a minimum of 8 hrs after a peel

  • Avoid make-up / fake tan / direct sun exposure, ice or ice water on the treated area and excessive heat for the rest of the day

  • Avoid hot tubs, steam rooms, saunas, excessively hot showers, swimming and aerobic exercise for 2 days

  • Avoid AHA and BHA skincare for 3-5 days

  • Avoid electrolysis, waxing, threading or any other form of hair removal for 7 days

  • Avoid tanning booths, facial scrubs or mechanical forms of exfoliation, retinoic acid, laser hair removal, photofacials, chemical peels or microdermabrasion for 14 days

  • In case of emergency such as allergic reaction, please contact your physician and proceed to the nearest emergency room.

Waxing

  • Contraindications include, but are not limited to: use of retinoids within the last 5 days, use of Roaccutane in the last 12 months, or recent sunburn.

What to expect:

  • Waxing may cause skin sensitivity in the treated area in the days following treatment

Do’s and Don’ts:

  • Hair should be no longer than the length of a grain of rice in order to be waxed; longer hair may result in us not being able to perform the service

  • Hair removal oils, masques, and exfoliation treatments may help to treat ingrown hairs or dark spots from forming in the treated area; ask your aesthetician for take-home product recommendations if these are common side-effects of waxing for you

  • Avoid saunas, hot tubs, or swimming pools for 24 hours following treatment

Brow & Lash Treatments

  • Contraindications include, but are not limited to: allergies to dye or perm solutions, or eye conditions.

What to expect:

  • A mild tingling sensation may be felt during the treatment itself

Do’s and Don’ts:

  • Avoid moisture and makeup in the treated area for 24 hours

  • Do not touch or rub the treated area for 24 hours

Teeth Whitening

  • Contraindications include, but are not limited to: active cold sores or lesions around the mouth, recent mouth surgery, gum or mouth conditions.

What to expect:

  • Mild sensitivity in the teeth or gums may occur over the next 24-48 hours

  • Whitening will only occur on the surface of natural teeth

Do’s and Don’ts:

  • Avoid any food or drinks that would lead to staining, such as coffee, tea, blueberries, tomato sauce etc. for a minimum of 24 hours

  • Avoid any carbonated drinks for 24 hours
